Try different breathing methods, how to breathe in a sauna
Mindful Breathing
Mindful breathing is a spiritual practice influenced by Buddhist Zen and traditional meditation, and is also a part of mindfulness. At its core, Mindful Breathing is about cultivating mindfulness by focusing on your breath, which means maintaining keen awareness and awareness in the present moment. This practice is often used to reduce stress, anxiety and promote inner peace.
Here are the basic steps of mindful breathing:
Find a quiet place: In a sauna, there is no better way to meet the quiet conditions.
Comfortable sitting position: Choose a comfortable sitting position, which can be sitting on a sauna chair. Keep your body upright but not tight.
Focus on your breathing: Focusing on your breathing is at the heart of mindful breathing. Start by just paying attention to the natural flow of your breath without making any adjustments. You can focus on where your breath comes in, how it flows through your body, and how it feels when you exhale.
Stay focused: When your mind starts to wander, bring your attention back to your breathing. Don't be too hard on yourself, accept the thoughts as they arise and gently return to your breath.
Continuous practice: Mindful breathing is an ongoing practice. It may be difficult to stay focused at first, but with practice, you'll find your ability to improve focus and awareness.
Mindful breathing helps reduce physical and mental tension, improves awareness of the present moment, and helps cope with stress and anxiety. It can be practiced not only during meditation, but also in daily life by introducing mindfulness into daily activities, such as sauna activities, so as to better experience and cope with life's challenges.
Box breathing
Box breathing is a deep breathing technique, also known as box breathing or square breathing. The purpose of this breathing technique is to help relax the body, reduce stress, increase concentration, and improve overall mental and physical state through regular breathing patterns. This technique usually consists of four main steps, forming a "square":
Inhale: Take a deep breath through your nose and count to a certain number, such as 4 seconds.
Hold: Hold your breath after inhaling, also counting to a certain number, such as 4 seconds.
Exhale: Exhale slowly through your mouth, also counting to a certain number, such as 4 seconds.
Hold: Hold your breath after exhaling for the same count, such as 4 seconds.
This series of steps forms a complete "breathing box" because each step takes an equal amount of time. Repeat these steps to create a continuous breathing cycle.
Box breathing can bring us:
Relax your body: Regular deep breathing can help relax tense muscles and reduce stress and tension in your body.
Anxiety Relief: This breathing technique helps tone the autonomic nervous system and reduce the body's stress response, thereby reducing feelings of anxiety.
Improve concentration: By consciously controlling your breathing, you can increase your attention to the present moment, improving concentration and alertness.
Emotional adjustment: This deep breathing technique helps balance emotions, making it easier to calm down in the face of challenges and stress.
Box breathing is a simple yet effective self-regulation technique that can be used anytime in your daily life.
Meditate
Meditating in a sauna can be a joyful and relaxing experience, but please exercise caution in hot environments. Here are some suggested steps for meditating in a sauna:
Make sure your body adapts: If you are new to saunas, it is recommended to gradually adapt to the high temperature environment first. You may only spend a short time in the sauna at first and then gradually increase your time in the sauna.
Choose a comfortable sitting position: In the sauna, you can choose to sit on a towel or mat for comfort. Saunas usually offer wooden or plastic seats, which you can choose based on your personal preference.
Regulate your breathing: Use deep breathing techniques to help relax your body. You can try deep breathing and slow inhales and exhales to promote a relaxed and meditative state.
Focus: Focus on your breathing and feeling the heat of your body and the flow of sweat to help maintain present-moment awareness. Try to eliminate distracting thoughts and focus on the sauna environment and your breathing.
Use meditation music or guided voices: If you like, you can play meditation music in the sauna or use guided voices provided by a meditation app. This helps deepen the meditation experience. There are some high-end infrared saunas that come with their own sound systems to enhance your sauna experience.
Stay hydrated: It's easy to lose fluids in a sauna due to the hot environment, so make sure you drink enough water to prevent dehydration.
Leave at any time: If you feel unwell, dizzy or otherwise unwell, leave the sauna at any time to rest. Don't spend too much time in hot environments.
Cooling down time: After finishing the sauna, give your body some time to cool down. You can choose to rest outside or in a cooler area to avoid immediate exposure to extreme temperature differences.

Do some stretching exercises
When stretching in the sauna, choose some simple yet effective stretches to help improve flexibility, relieve muscle tension, and acclimate to the heat. At the same time, heat also helps eliminate and release lactic acid. Here are some sauna stretches you can try:
Neck Stretch:
Slowly tilt your head to one side, bringing your ears close to your shoulders, and hold for 15-30 seconds.
Repeat on the other side.
Relax your shoulders:
Rotate your shoulders slowly, first clockwise and then counterclockwise, keeping the movement gentle.
Arm stretches:
Raise one hand, bend at the elbow and gently stretch back with the other hand.
Switch to the other hand to perform the stretch.
Spinal twist:
Sit or stand, slowly twist your upper body, try to rotate your arms and back, and hold for 15-30 seconds.
Back stretches:
Sit on the floor with your legs straight. Bend one leg, place the sole of your foot outside the other leg, and wrap your opposite arm around the knee of the bent leg to perform a twisting stretch.
Waist stretch:
Stand with your feet naturally apart. Slowly lean your body and try to touch your toes and hold for 15-30 seconds.
Hip extension:
Sit on the floor, bend your legs, place the sole of your left foot on the inside of your right leg, then slowly lean forward, hold for 15-30 seconds, then switch to the other side.
Leg stretches:
Stand with your feet naturally apart, stretch the back of your thighs as much as possible, and place your arms on your thighs for support.
Calf stretches:
Sit with one leg straight, the other bent, and the sole of your foot on the inside of the straight leg. Bend your upper body and try to touch the toes of your straightened legs.
Foot massage:
Roll the balls of your feet on the floor, similar to massaging the soles of your feet.
